EPSRC UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems Network (UK RAS Network)

UK RAS Network is devoted to the UK Robotics innovation. It has a mission to deliver the academic leadership in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, improve the industry collaboration, activity integration and coordination at 8 facilities of EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) that subsidized RAS capital for the Doctoral Trainings around the country.

The Launching of UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems Network

The UK RAS Network that has been formally launched gives boosted ability for UK to develop and achieve the Robotics and autonomous systems potential. The network will make every innovation of Robotics is coordinated nationally and boost the collaborations of academic and industry that will quicken the adoption and development of RAS. The network was unveiled at the London’s Science Museum after the Robot Ethics public lecture presented by IET Robotics and Mechatronics Network with the UK RAS network supports and Science Museum Latest association.

The networks has gotten great supports from major industrial that become partners, professional engineering bodies in United Kingdom such as IET, Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as The Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The next plan is the expansion of stakeholders such as top academia and industry international collaborators and the major laboratories across UK. On the other hand, the service and industrial robots in global market is expected to achieve up to $59.5 billion in 2020.

The Potential of UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems Network

As the statement of Jo Johnson, the Minister of State for Universities and Science of UK that the Robotics and autonomous systems in UK have great potential of growing because it belongs to Eight Great Technologies in the country. To make it, UK should draw on the research base and industry ambition expertise. It will fasten the high technology sector development and the high value new way if the country could work together. The professor, Guang-Zhong Yang PhD, FREng also stated that RAS was designed to play the crucial role of UK economy in all industry sectors, including healthcare, transport, unmanned systems and also manufacturing.

The network will also become an organizer of various activities such as the events of network and strategic roadmap like the Robotics conference in UK, workshops and symposia, exhibitions and public engagement. The extensive activities will be also done online through social media, user forums and website. The aims of the Robotics and autonomous systems network are to make stronger the relationship to industry by assisting the industrial secondment and interdisciplinary mobility, design challenges in process and also the proof of concept development.
